Everest Region Trekking

Everest View point from Namchhe

Nowhere in the world is there a more spectacular mountain region than Everest. Located in the remote Solu Kumbu region of northeast Nepal, it is home to the six tallest peaks above 8000 metres and offers the best trekking and climbing experiences known to man. As you journey into the very heart and unparalleled heights of the Himalaya mountain range, you will be dazzled by the extraordinary sights painted by the mighty hand of nature.

The prime attraction is, of course, the infamous Mount Everest (or Sagarmartha as it is known in Nepali), situated in the Sagarmartha National Park. At 8848m, Everest stands tall and proud alongside other formidable giants including Lotse, Cho Oyu and Ama Dablam, (the latter, although slightly smaller than its neighbours, is one of the most beautiful mountains in Nepal above 6,000 meters). The park was designated an UNESCO World Heritage Sight in 1979 and is home to a rich and diverse ecosystem. Wildlife abounds in the lower regions with many birds and mammals (such as ghoral, thar, serow, musk deer, impeyan pheasant, blood pheasant, red-billed chough and the yellow billed chough) and plants (pine, hemlock, fir, juniper, birch, rhododendron) thriving in the temperate climate . With more than 1,148 sq km of its surface above 3,000m, the fertile landscape gradually gives way to rugged terrain with deep gorges, glaciers and huge rock formations.

The trail to the Everest regions begins at Luklu, 2850m above sea level. It is inaccessible by road, so most people fly into the airport directly from Kathamandu. We climb at a steady pace, taking time to acclimitise as we go, following the Dudhkoshi River Valley to the legendry Sherpa village of Namche Bazaar (3,500m). This is the staging point for all expeditions to Everest and other peaks in the area. Here you can purchase any last minute items for your trip and enjoy the full array of comforts and amenities before setting off on your adventure into the wilderness.

There will be plenty of opportunities to observe the culture and partake in the traditional ways of life of the Sherpa people (renowned for their strength and climbing prowess). Above Namche lie the traditional villages of Khunde and Khumjung and across the canyonfrom Khunde perched on a high ridge can be seen the Tenboche Monastery, the leading Buddhist center in the Khumbhu. From here, you can choose to set forth and conquer the mighty Everest itself or, if you wish to escape the masses, veer off on one of many other equally impressive routes through this wondrous land. By embarking on an Everest trek, you will experience firsthand the sights and scenes that most adventure enthusiasts only dream about and stake your claim in reaching the Top of The World.
