Langtang Gosaikunda Trek

Langtang Village

Gosaikunda Trek leads us through the Langtang region to the holy lakes of Gosaikunda at an astounding height of 4380m. Sitting atop the Himalaya, Gosaikundas majesty is undeniable and captivating to those who have beheld its crystal waters; praised in the Hindu traditions as a creation of the God Shiva this lake has become a major pilgrimage site for people all over the world. There is a large rock that penetrates from Gosaikundas centre which is said to be the remains of an ancient Shiva shrine; in the month of August, at the apex of monsoon season, thousands of Sadhus from around the country gather to worship here.

There are multiple avenues of approach to the lake itself, depending on your preference. The most popular trail winds up through the Langtang Valley to Sing Gomba, offering brilliant sights to those who advance with wonder in their hearts. Bordering Tibet to the north we will make our way through this culturally diverse area gaining insight into the ancient ways and traditions, perhaps having a taste of Yak cheese from one of the mountain dairies en route. The route steeply climbs its way to Laurebina Yak before finally coming upon the holy lakes themselves.

We will then hike our way down the valley to reach the outskirts of ancient Kathmandu. There are many ways to go about this trek in accordance with time, skill level and overall goals.
